AnoHana Episode 1 – First Impressions

don't worry, she's a ghost

Good thing somebody already took the initiative to shorten this title to AnoHana instead of Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai, I mean Christ, long enough?  This anime is about some high school drop-out named Jinta, who’s life pretty much fell apart after a girl he knew as a kid died.  Damn, this is really hard to explain without a full summary, but pretty much, he called her ugly, ran away, and she died, now he pretty much hates himself, and creates a projection of her because he’s so upset by what he did. After her death, he and his group of friends drift apart as they grow older.  However, Jinta always remembers a wish that the girl, Menma, had told him about when they were still kids, which is probably just that they’d remain friends, but it doesn’t say.

Obviously,  the rest of the series will be spent exploring the back stories of what how each person came to be who they are now, from what they were then, and It”ll probably pull an Angel Beats on us; like once they all come back together, his projection of Menma will disappear .  I thought they way they showed that Menma wasn’t real was unique; not until the end of the episode does Jinta straight up say that she isn’t real, and for about the first 3 or 4 minuets I would’ve told you he was just ignoring her when they were eating.

Woah shit turns out she’s real. A ghost. She can interact with other characters and write stuff in her diary and shit. Creepy.
